Alison Denzer-King was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia before leaving for twelve years to study and work primarily in the Northeast. While living outside of Georgia, Alison received her Bachelors in Psychology, with a minor in Education, from Wesleyan University before moving to the Bronx, New York, to teach public high school English with AmeriCorps. Through this program, she developed a passion for co-teaching and the transformative power of differentiated learning groups with multiple teachers. The Bronx also taught her that every child is capable of growth and greatness, no matter what circumstances they may be born into.
After her two year position with AmeriCorps, Alison was honored to receive a one year teaching fellowship with Notre Dame to teach middle school math on the Blackfeet Reservation. For graduate school, Alison received a Masters of Education with a concentration in English Education, Instruction, and Curriculum Development from Harvard University where she student taught English in a large public high school. After graduate school, Alison returned to her beloved Bronx to teach 8th grade English/Language Arts at a charter middle school for four years.
Although Alison loved her students and community there, she never stopped being homesick for Georgia, and returned home in the fall of 2024. While looking for a school in Georgia, Tapestry stood–and stands–out in her varied teaching experiences because of its commitment to honoring students’ and teachers’ individual humanity–strengths, needs, and all. She looks forward to many more years of teaching English/Language Arts to present and future Tapestry students.
